The Entrepreneur's view of Business Angels

"One or two of the Business Angels got the ball rolling and then everyone I approached contributed. With these people it's not the money but the idea and their evaluation of you. What they haven't got is time. They also want it to be interesting. But they were smart money. They not only invested but gave me contacts and advice and even today when things get lonely I phone them up. They are a great support."

Business Redefined: Generating Returns

"A new global study Business Redefined: Generating Returns finds that companies at the convergence of telecommunications, media and entertainment and technology face a difficult business paradox. They must manage for growth and, in some cases, redefine their business models, but they must do so in an era of capital scarcity and other significant financial limitations."

"Among the important issues raised in the study:

  • With capital scarce, free cash flow is the new catalyst for change. Companies must now finance growth through their own cash flow.
  • Across-the-board cost-cutting to improve profitability will backfire for some companies.
  • The CFO Finance Director is becoming more critical and involved in business issues, as well as financial controls, in the new environment.
  • Investments will become polarised, focusing on either infrastructure or the customer.
  • A return to profitable growth depends on the customer and the ability of numerous companies in all three sectors to work interdependently to deliver the value-added services customers want to buy."
